ParentPreneur Networking – a brave new world
After a fun packed Christmas and New Year, it’s back to work for the local Hale and Altrincham ParentPreneurs. The January event took place at the beautiful Tour de Belfort on Broomfield Lane in Hale. The perfect venue, matched with an amazing guest speaker, David Trott from Impact Business Advisors, set the scene for a truly enlightening and inspiring event.
ParentPreneur Networking is for parents that have made the choice to replace paid for childcare and employment, with being more hands on with family life and running their own business. Most that attended had left corporate jobs to become ParentPreneurs and be part of a world that is becoming more popular to family life.
David Trott from Impact, an expert in his field, gave valuable advice on blogging, social media and getting your business heard. Frantically making notes on the gold gems of information, the ParentPreneurs were thrilled to put into action his tips and advice.
Trott went on to say, “ParentPreneur is so different from “normal” networking, the event is friendly, open and as much about your story as it is your business. It is about business, but people are out to help other people, understanding what drives them and how they overcome struggles. Ordinary networking events could learn from this.”
The message was clear from all the businesses that attended, times can be tough, sometimes isolating, but having the freedom of your own business was something they all have in common.
Businesses that attended were from accountant to business coach, from kids play franchisee to hat creator. All businesses and parents with their individual story, all with an overwhelming array of life changing circumstances, that had led them to the path of being a ParentPreneur and putting family and precious time as a priority in their lives.
Several parents that attended were looking for guidance and advice from their peers on where to start in setting up their own business. Franco Motto, local dad of one boy said, “The meeting helped me feel a little less alone and it gave me a boost to feel more confident about starting my own business.”

Another outstanding ParentPreneur Networking event in Hale for Altrincham and Hale parents with their own business.
We were honoured to have Naomi Timperley as our guest speaker. Dragons Den survivor Timperley is a director of 4Hub CIC, a social enterprise consultancy that supports communities, enterprise and startups, and she’s also the creator of My Big Social Idea.
This year she was named in the “Maserati 100”, a definitive list of Britain’s most successful business leaders actively supporting the next generation of entrepreneurs.
Naomi spoke openly about her recent battle with depression, saying that she is taking everything step by step. She said, if there was one thing she would change “looking back I wouldn’t put so much pressure on myself”, something most of the parentpreneur audience could relate too.
She offered some amazing advise and invaluable experience, saying “don’t be closed, talk to people. If you want to change something get off your backside and do it”.
Businesses that attended were from business coach to PR specialist, beautician to hat creator. All businesses and parents with their individual story, all with an overwhelming array of life changing circumstances, that had led them to the path of being a ParentPreneur and putting family and precious time as a priority in their lives. Some parents attended were thinking about leaving full time employment to become a parentpreneur, seeking guidance from those who are living the life.
Angela Roberts, founder of ParentPreneur said, “More and more families are taking the option of a stay at home parent, be it the mum or dad, and having their own business. It can however be a very lonely place at times, that’s why our networking events are amazing at bringing likeminded people together to motivate, inspire and remind ourselves why we do what we do”.
The Altrincham and Hale ParentPreneur event will be monthly, the next one again at The Tour de Belfort, Broomfield Lane, Hale, on Wednesday 25th November, 9.30 to 11.30.

We see that http://www.fyifamilies.co.uk has been going for a while, how did you get involved?
Yes, FYI Families has officially been launched in May of this year, and it has really gone from strength to strength. I really enjoy connecting with local business owners who have struggled in the past with promoting their fantastic products and services. And as a parent myself, I sometimes struggle to find out fun and interesting things for my children to do. So it really was a great fit for me. My role of Community Ambassador had grown over the last few months, and I am enjoying the change of pace it has brought to my life and my other business too.
Is it easy to add information for other parents to see?
We have tried to make it as easy as possible for parents to find out what is going on in their local area, and we have just launched our App on the App store, and the Android version is coming soon too. Any family focussed business can add their details completely free of charge, and there are of course add ons and extras available to those business who want a bit more bang for their buck!
The whole process of adding a listing takes around 10 minutes to complete, and you can add your business logo and contact details too.
Any plans to update the services offered
If companies choose to take a free listing on the website, we actively encourage listing owners to regularly update and check their details just in case any have changed etc and so parents can be assured that they will have the most up to date contact details.
As a ‘one stop marketing shop’ we offer a whole host of additional services to our clients, many are bespoke to that particular clients needs, and we have a money back guarantee too! So there really is nothing to lose and lots to gain!
We are launching our first edition of our printed magazine in January, which is very exciting. Inside it will be full listings of clubs and classes, broken down into age group. We are passionate about young people, and feel that the majority of the time they have a bad reputation which is often incorrect. So in response to this we are looking for parents and the community to nominate children or young people who they feel have made an extra special contribution or have achieved something that is really outstanding. We would love to showcase them, and hopefully begin to change the external views of the children within our community.
