Having spent most of my child free life striving for the best career possible, to be a high earner, always setting the next set of goals, the day I had my first baby things changed. The most important meeting in the world could not have kept me away from my baby if she was sick. The announcement of the next big promotion would not keep me away from picking her up from her first day at nursery. The biggest priority now is my family. Time became one of the most precious things ever, that, along with sleep. Wasted time in meetings for meetings sake, listening to colleagues saying the right things but not fully believing what they were saying or doing, made me question what it was all about. I went from a career of managing over 700 people, putting proposals together for contracts worth millions, presenting to CEO’s and top businesses, to managing two little people, a home and my dreams.

I now have two toddlers and have left the corporate world. I would like to say never to return, but you never know. I set up a home based business putting maps into shapes and framing them for gifts and personal keepsakes. I had one day a week to build my empire child free. MapMyWorld has reached over 10,000 likes and over 300 customers. The rest of the time I am a full time mum, the hardest job of all, but the most rewarding. I love taking my little girl to school, I love going to the park and jumping in muddy puddles with my little boy whenever I fancy.

I built my business mainly through social media and word of mouth, as I didn’t have time to stand at a craft market all afternoon or spend days delivering leaflets. I looked for networking events but found that the times didn’t fit with my commitments to children, were too far away or just seemed a bit too daunting for little old me to rock up with my maps in frames.

Then I started wanting to find out more about expanding my business, be inspired and build my confidence by talking to other people in the same situation.
So here is the start of ParentPreneur. A monthly networking event, aimed at parents who either have their own business or are thinking of starting their own business. The event will give you the opportunity to showcase your business. You can either bring your product along, bring leaflets or business cards for us to put in packs, personally tell us about you and your business, whatever you feel comfortable with. We will have inspirational and informative speakers to learn from, who have been there and done it. Even if you are thinking of starting your own business, it is a great event to mix with likeminded people and let us help with ideas and motivation to take the plunge.

We are not only going to sell our products and services to each other but also share ideas and help each other with business issues. So if you are doing a leaflet drop in the area, why not do it together and split costs and time. If you are using a good accountant why not share with others. We can share each other’s businesses through social media and word of mouth. The list is endless.
To help you have the best chance of attending we have arranged a time that school drop off and pick up can still be done, ensured that there is parking available close by. We do not have a dress code, so come in what feels comfortable. We will provide tea, coffee and a little treat, but feel free to bring anything else you need.
