The Altrincham Duck team catch up with Jeanie from Babel Babies about a new local business venture.
Lots of people will not have heard about Babel Babies, where did the idea come from?
Unfortunately I can't take the credit for that! The idea of Babel Babies was originally conceived by two mums in Cheltenham who wanted to share their love of languages with their own children - luckily one of those mums is Cate Hamilton, a good friend of mine! I'd trained as a primary school teacher with a language specialism, and was considering setting up my own language-teaching business. I phoned Cate one day to ask her advice and she hit me with the idea of setting up Babel Babies in Manchester. I was secretly hoping that's what she'd say, so obviously I said yes!
When are you going to be running the sessions, and where?
Sessions run in Altrincham on Wednesdays and Fridays from 10am. We're in Tesco's community space on Wednesdays from 4th November and in Velo Espresso from Friday 6th November.

What’s the interest been like so far?
It's been amazing! There's a lot of choice out there at the minute for mums and dads, so I'm really happy and grateful that Babel Babies has been so popular. I've had lots of support from friends and family in getting the brand out there, and Social Media has obviously played a massive part. I've even had an email from the Mayor of Trafford asking if I'd like him to come down to one of the sessions... obviously I said yes!
What age group are you targeting?
We have two different age groups: 'Bambinos' is for toddlers all the way up to pre-school age, and 'Babies' is suitable from birth up to walking. Anyone with children across both age groups is welcome to bring both to a Bambinos session.
Anything else that you would like to tell us?
Classes cost £25 for a term of 5 weeks, with additional siblings or cared for children costing just £1 extra per class.
Anyone who wants to find out more about Babel Babies is welcome to come to free taster session on Friday 23rd October at Velo Espresso on Moss Lane. Places can be booked on the Babel Babies website (www.babelbabies.com)
