The Orange Tree dates back to 1679. It now sits back from the main A56 road through Altincham, separated from the road the the historic Old Market Place.
Standing in front of the stocks at the Old Market Place, legend has it that a man sold his wife here for a shilling and sixpence in 1823. Rumour has that the pub is also haunted!
As one of our regular venues for the ducks Tuesday 'quackups' we were especially proud to see the Orange Tree celebrate their 6 month anniversary recently - we spoke to Gabby about her thoughts on the last few months and ideas for the future:
How has your first 6 months been?
"Our first 6 months have been good, getting to know our customers building trust & making friends, we are looking forward to the summer and getting involved with events and happenings in Altrincham, hopefully this will encourage even more people to wander across the road and have a look at what we've done with the place”
The refurbishment has gone down well, a fresh airy look, taking some walls back to brick were done to replace the plaster but the character of the bricks was too good to cover them back up!
Plans for the future?
“Our most recent plans are to finish doing the beer garden and we have tasting nights coming up so keep eyes & ears out for news on those, we are have a quiz on a Thursday night which is growing, Charlie our quiz master composes a fun, eclectic quiz and banter ensues!!”
Have the changes worked?

“We have 5 hand pumps of real ales Timothy Taylor Landlord & Copper Dragon Golden Pippin are regulars are on the bar with the other 3 being guests, we regularly have a Mobberley Fines Ales beer on the bar.
We are proud to have the opportunity to become part of Altrincham and bring The Orange Tree back up and part of the community."

A quick update on some recent goings on in the quackers world of the Altrincham Duck.
Firstly, the ducks have welcomed a new member to the team and an impromptu initiation ceremony recently took place at Costellos Bar in Altrincham - a ceremony which admittedly was non-existent prior to his arrival, but it seemed like a good idea at the time and the unsuspecting duck was blissfully unaware that he was our 'guinea pig'. Nevertheless he took it all on the chin and now frequently joins us on our regular Tuesday quackups. Do you know this man?..

The ducks have continued their expansion out of the Altrincham area (we are more than happy to support our surrounding towns) and have now partnered with another business in Sale. It was a pleasure to meet Tracey at Traders Outlet recently and we recommend that you pay them a visit. Traders Outlet describe themselves as "A cornucopia of luxury goods, fashions and gifts from selected independent retailers, shops and specialists" ..their greatest achievement to date however must be that they are now the proud owners of a couple of highly sought after Altrincham Duck stickers!
In other news, you may just be able to identify a duck in public now. The popularity of our non obtrusive stickers has made them a much sought after commodity but we issue them sparingly - (if you would like to display one you can contact us via the links below) but we now have even more popular Altrincham Duck badges. If you spot somebody wearing one around town please say hello, it's likely that you have found one of our anonymous duck team!

First and foremost, the Ducks would like to thank Amanda at @CheshireLadders (cheshireladders.co.uk) writing this amazing review.
Amanda entered a competition for one lucky Twitter user to win a meal for two at The Fat Loaf in Sale with the meat supplied by the legendary Frosts Butchers in Chorlton.
Although #followthecat and I actually won our dinner for two in their Twitter competition, I wouldn't hesitate coming back here as a paid customer at all. I liked the personality of the place, comfortable - down to earth and the menu had something for everyone's taste.
Being a Saturday night it was constantly busy but never packed out - as they're a small but experienced team that worked like a well oiled machine. Nobody waited, everybody received personal service and the tables were cleared immediately for the next arrivals. The music could be heard in the background, just as it should be. That, coupled with the chat of diners and the efficiency of the staff gave the place a lovely atmosphere.
We had a meat platter supplied by 'The Frosty Butcher' as it was part of our competition win and it was de-li-cious! Cooked to perfection and served with 'proper' chips, home made onion rings and grilled tomatoes and a lovely bottle of wine that was suggested would go nicely with it. (It did)
I did drool at the fish choices on the menu before we ate but... maybe next time!
