Altrincham Duck

Helping Altrincham since 2014

"This week we have a featured guest post / interview from our good friends at Cheshire Ladders:

So Amanda, tell us about yourself and Cheshire Ladders

I'm a single mum who is passionate about keeping small business in business.
Not happy that our high streets are being taken over by the big guys and small businesses are forced out due to high rates and rents. Nothing we can do about this but we can all help to get them seen so people know where they are and encourage people to 'Shop Smart. Shop Local'

Everything you see me doing on social media is for free and I love doing it!
Any small biz in Cheshire can use our Facebook page and town groups to network.

Any small business in Cheshire can also list for free on the Cheshire Ladders website.

My ideal place is behind my computer doing what I do. As much as I encourage people to network, I don't always have the time. The CAT is recognisable to some and breaks the ice when he does make me venture out. The photos with him are just a bit of a fun way to give small businesses some free promotion as I post them on Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest and my own website. I pay my way, never had or would expect a freebie in return for promotion. Not everyone has an ulterior motive for doing things...not easy for a lot of people to believe in this day and age sadly.

Another most productive week for the Altrincham Duck - thanks so much for your continued support, here's our latest round-up.

The Altrincham Duck concept is clearly beginning to gain traction around Altrincham and we have been honoured enough to reach a point where local business are pro-actively asking us to drop in and pay them a visit.

This is exactly what the duck is all about - we pride ourselves on providing anonymous, transparent and unbiast reviews of local businesses/events that are relevant to the local Altrincham community or visitor to our town - we achieve this by the fact that the duck team is a collective of like minded people and not run by an individual. Thus you can be assured that whatever you read has been scrutinised by members of the duck team who have wide ranging personal/professional skills between them that cover many professions and experiences. The duck HAS NOT and WILL NOT ever be influenced by 'favours'

So on to the news: The latest 'quackup' took place at The Roebuck on Victoria St, Altrincham - another favourite place where you can regularly find one of our team in his leisure time. The roebuck has the honour of being recognised in Altrincham's 'Burger Off' event as winner for presentation and the winner of 'Burger Bun' category, but also provides an extensive range of quality home cooked meals that in the ducks opinion you must try to appreciate. We were further honoured to be joined on Tuesday by the North Wests leading social media expert who has taken it upon himself to bring the Altrincham Duck under his wing - we won't name drop at this point but if you follow our Facebook and Twitter feeds you probably have a pretty good idea who we're going on about.

Talking of name dropping - how old are you? If you're an 80's child like the majority of the ducks you might be interested in the gossip of a couple of the ducks taking a trip up to The Wirral this week to catch up again with OMD's Andy McCluskey on behalf of a recent charity event for Marie Curie. Andy has previously kindly supported the duck as you can see from the photo below, and its another picture in our ever growing gallery of star supporters. The Marie Curie charity is close to our hearts and we ask that you do all you can to support them as funding is always an issue for this charity - as with each and every charity that people like us give up our time for. Resulting inside gossip: Listen out for new 2015 OMD material - it sounds good!

This week the ducks will be out around town again - we will undoubtedly be reporting on our next Tuesday 'quackup' and our resident foodie Ninja Duck has a new review of Nahmprik Thai Restaurant for your consideration (at his own expence we might add - and the effort greatly appreciated) If you would like to contribute a restaraunt review or feel the urge to write a few paragraphs about a local event, we'd be more than happy to give it a look over for publication on our website, you can contact us via the links below.

Its been an interesting 24 hours in Altrincham - as usual we were all totally unprepared for the (admittedly unexpected) amount of snow that was dumped on the town on Wednesday, but we’re ducks, were British and we held our stiff upper beak and dealt with it.

A couple of the ducks set out on a mission to Liverpool early on Wednesday morning but after covering a distance that could have been walked in half the time, we had to abandon the idea some 90mins and just a couple of miles away from where we started. On the plus side however, it did give us the opportunity to snap a gallery’s worth of photos (see below) - but that isn’t getting stuff done is it?

If you've kept up to date with our Facebook and Twitter feeds you’ll be clued up on our most recent Tuesday ‘quackup’ - thank you very much for your comments, shares and retweets. The duck is all about the people that make Altrincham tick and we’d be lost without you. Keep up the good work! We will undoubtedly be meeting up again this coming week and we'll update you here with our latest reviews, news and inside info before the end of the coming week.

On the subject of reviews, you may be interested in a recent blog post from our very own Ninja Duck’s visit to Coco’s Italian Restaurant on Regent Road, Altrincham. The ducks pride themselves on making our visits unannounced and anonymous so you can be assured that our reviews are transparent and unbiased - unlike some other local commercial online feeds the ducks DO NOT and WILL NOT ever ‘tweet to eat’. If you would like to contribute a review of a local pub, club, restaurant or maybe even just a paragraph or two on a local event please contact us and we’d be only too happy to consider your submission for publication in our news feed - your input, ideas and opinions will always remain important to us.
