The Stonemasons, Timperley

This Duck and three friends attended the soft launch of Stonemasons, Timperley and loved it!
We received a warm welcome from Angus, one of the guys who have spearheaded this project. Angus invited us to order a drink at the bar and later Cai (the second owner) carried them over to our table – a nice touch.
Our waiter was Hannah who provided us smiley and enthusiastic service throughout. The menu is traditional with some twists. Our table chose starters and mains.
We ordered two Sautéed Chicken Livers, a Tuna Tartare and a Tomato and Burrata. Not one morsal was left on any of our plates, the tuna tartare was a particular feast for the eyes and mouth.

Our table then had two Fillet Medallions one with a Blue Cheese sauce and one with Chimmichuri sauce. The fillets came with a generous helping of chips and we also had side order of ‘rainbow carrots’ – delicious. The steak was cooked well as per our order and the sauces were unusual and very complimentary to the fillets. One of our party had Beef Short Rib and Mash, the meat just fell off the bone, lovely. The fourth dish was the Lake District Lamb Rump with Dauphinoise Potatoes and green beans, again this was well cooked and presented. At the end of the meal all that was left was an odd carrot. That is testament to the quality of the food.
Overall we felt the portions were a good size and it wasn’t necessary to supplement them with side orders, although we did enjoy ours. The food was tasty and although traditional had little quirks like the choice of sauces on offer.

As this was the first evening of opening their doors we expected delays and hiccups and we experience delays. We are sure these will be ironed out very soon. Both Cai and Angus approached our table to explain any delays, they were apologetic and clearly keen to learn from any mistakes. They handled it all extremely well on what must have been a very stressful and pressured evening. Clearly they have a dedicated and keen staff who are proud to be part of this exciting new venture.
We found the menu prices to be reasonable when compared to its’ peers but certainly pricier than anything else in the village – but then there is nothing like the Stonemasons in the village! The decoration is classic yet modern and very fitting for this lovely old building. We predict that others will begin to ‘up their game’ and the re-imagining of the Stonemasons will attract others to open in the village.
Altrincham Duck wish Angus and Cai the very best of luck and we will be back to visit them again soon
