About Me
Welcome to my webpage. My name is Helen and I am a trained English teacher. I am Secondary English qualified and offer English tuition for pupils at both primary and secondary level. I have much experience in teaching pupils from Year 2 to Year 11 and specifically at GCSE. I enjoy working with pupils of all ages and abilities and offer a personalised programme of study for every student I teach. I believe practice is the key to improvement and I work hard with my pupils to allow them to achieve their best: with hard work comes great reward.
I am also qualified in teaching learners with dyslexia. I have Approved Teacher Status which is awarded by the British Dyslexia Association.
Primary
Popular areas taught include: comprehension skills, spelling practice, reading skills, understanding and decoding texts, writing practice, grammar skills and interpreting texts.
Secondary
Popular areas taught include: comprehension skills and exam practice, decoding and understanding texts, locating information, selecting relevant information and quotations, reading aloud skills, forming full concise answers, close text analysis and interpretation and essay practice.
Specific Learning Difficulties - Dyslexia
I am a fully qualified Dyslexia Specialist and create individualised learning programmes for the pupils I teach. I follow a highly structured programme to teach spelling and sound which is aimed specifically at pupils with dyslexia. I also have experience in working with pupils with memory processing difficulties, dyspraxia, Aspergers Syndrome and speech and language difficulties.
Maths
I also have much experience in teaching Mathematics to children between the ages of 6 and 11. Often parents welcome being able to go to one place for two different subjects!
